Remote Access and Secure Shell

To use UA VPN, you need to download and install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client on your computer or mobile device.

Detailed instructions with screenshots are available on the UA Virtual Private Network (VPN) page.

Below are instructions without screenshots, for windows/mac laptops/desktops.

 

How to Download and Install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client 

Go to https://vpn.arizona.edu

Select Group: UASSL-2Factor

Login with NetID+

Click the "AnyConnect" link in the left pane of your browser window.

Click the "Start AnyConnect" link in the center pane of your browser window.

This will attempt to install the VPN client on your desktop/laptop.

If the install fails (it will on a Mac):

Click the "AnyConnect VPN" link

This will download a file to your desktop/laptop.

(anyconnect-macos.exe for windows, anyconnect-macos.dmg for mac)

Double-click on that file.

Install the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client.

 

How to Use the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client 

Double-click on Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.

Enter vpn.arizona.edu in the empty field in the pop-up.

Click Connect.

Select Group: UASSL-2Factor

Enter your UA NetID in the Username field.

Enter your UA NetID password in the Password field.

Enter push in the second password field.

Click OK.

Approve the login with your Duo Mobile App.

We restrict SSH access from off-campus to our servers. Access to shell2.lpl.arizona.edu is unrestricted, so if you cannot SSH to your favorite system, first ssh to shell2.lpl.arizona.edu and SSH to your system from there.

Click here to access the LPL public ftp site: LPL FTP Site and login as Guest.

If your browser will not open the ftp site:

- on a Mac, try Chrome or Firefox instead of Safari or

- on a Mac, click on your Desktop, click Go -> "Connect to Server", enter "ftp://ftp.lpl.arizona.edu" in the pop-up, click Connect, and Login as Guest.

- on Linux/UNIX, open a terminal or command window, issue the command "ftp ftp.lpl.arizona.edu" , and login as anonymous.

To download files from the ftp site using a browser or GUI interface:

 login as Guest, double-click into the pub folder, then the lpl folder, then the appropriate folder and click the file of your choice to start the download.

To download files from the ftp site using a terminal or command window:

login as anonymous and cd pub/lpl/, cd to the appropriate directory, and use the get or mget command to download a file or files.

If you would like to create a directory to share files on the LPL ftp site, please contact LPL Systems.

To download, install, and test Secure Shell, perform the following steps on your Windows PC.

1) Copy the Putty secure shell installer to your Windows PC, as follows:

Download the Putty installer executable (putty-0.66-installer.exe). Save it to your desktop.

2) Install Putty.

To install software on your PC, you must be logged in as a user who has administrator rights, so log out of Windows and log back in as Administrator, if necessary. Then install Putty, as follows:

Double-click on the downloaded Putty installer exe file on your desktop. Click OK to accept all of the defaults if you are prompted.

No reboot is required. 

If you are on the Kuiper wired network, you should be able to VNC to your Kuiper machine. If you are elsewhere, you need to first login to the UA VPN; then VNC to your Kuiper machine.

If you are on the Kuiper wired network, you should be able to connection via Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) to your Kuiper Mac. If you are elsewhere, you need to first login to the UA VPN, then connect via ARD to your Kuiper Mac.

If you are on the Kuiper wired network, you should be able to Remote Desktop into your Kuiper Windows system. If you are elsewhere, you need to first login to the UA VPN, then Remote Desktop into your system.
