Remote Access and Secure Shell

To use LPL VPN, you need the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client on your computer or mobile device.

If you do not have Cisco AnyConnect VPN installed on your device, you can find detailed instructions with screenshots on the UA Virtual Private Network (VPN) page.

How to connect to the LPL VPN?

Instructions

  1. Open the Cisco Secure Client.
  2. In the field next to the connect button, enter your department-specific VPN (vpn.arizona.edu/lpl).

  3. Click Connect.
  4. Once you have clicked the Connect button, a login window will open up:
     
    1. Username: NetID
    2. Password: NetID Password
    3. 2FA Method: Type your preferred option.
      • Enter push to receive a Duo Mobile push notification.
      • Enter a passcode generated via the Duo Mobile app, SMS, Yubikey, Feitian, or Bypass code.
      • Enter sms to generate a new batch of codes via text message.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Accept on the Cisco Secure Client.

     

  7. You should now be connected to the LPL VPN.

 

Please notice that OSIRIS-REx/OSIRIS-APEX's VPN is also called LPL VPN and it provides access only to the OREx/APEX systems.

We restrict SSH access from off-campus to our servers. Access to shell2.lpl.arizona.edu is unrestricted, so if you cannot SSH to your favorite system, first ssh to shell2.lpl.arizona.edu and SSH to your system from there.

To download, install, and test Secure Shell, perform the following steps on your Windows PC.

1) Copy the Putty secure shell installer to your Windows PC, as follows:

Download the Putty installer executable (putty-0.66-installer.exe). Save it to your desktop.

2) Install Putty.

To install software on your PC, you must be logged in as a user who has administrator rights, so log out of Windows and log back in as Administrator, if necessary. Then install Putty, as follows:

Double-click on the downloaded Putty installer exe file on your desktop. Click OK to accept all of the defaults if you are prompted.

No reboot is required. 

If you are on the Kuiper wired network, you should be able to VNC to your Kuiper machine. If you are elsewhere, you need to first login to the UA VPN; then VNC to your Kuiper machine.

If you are on the Kuiper wired network, you should be able to connection via Apple Remote Desktop (ARD) to your Kuiper Mac. If you are elsewhere, you need to first login to the UA VPN, then connect via ARD to your Kuiper Mac.

If you are on the Kuiper wired network, you should be able to Remote Desktop into your Kuiper Windows system. If you are elsewhere, you need to first login to the UA VPN, then Remote Desktop into your system.
